AMURTEL is an international NGO that cares for those who society has abandoned. Destitute women, orphans, the handicapped, victims of war and natural calamities, crippling disease, the elderly - all need loving care and a chance to change their fate.
AMURTEL’s programs provide a healthy and nurturing environment that meets the needs of all individuals. It provides education, training, and motivation to them, encouraging and guiding them along a new path of self-reliance, self-determination, and self-esteem.
AMURT’s and AMURTEL’s Food For All program has been assisting such people with emergency food needs for the past fifteen years. 1n 2001, especially after September 11, the demand for our services increased dramatically. The Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union, for example, were struggling to support 4,000 recently unemployed members. We provided food for fifty union families every week until they found other resources.
